RIO is the perfect summer movie. It featured the paradise-like sunny beaches of Brazil, cool soundtrack, great adventure and feel-good love story.
The movie was a burst of vivid color and happy tunes of dance and song numbers starring the feathered gang of Blu and Jewel. The birds came out to party, and party they did! The song selection varied from the crooner Lionel Richie to a carnival themed anthem. And the Disney influenced can’t be denied with the solo performance of the villain and the “Kiss the girl” version of the cacao couple. The movie was indeed a total visual and auditory treat for all.
Rio was also full of comedy punch lines that made me laugh out loud. It showed that birds have good sense of humor. The ‘Birds vs Monkeys’, black out before the goal in a football game, the numerous awkwardness between the love birds and even the being domesticated of Blu elicited genuine laughter from me. It was just so funny that one would forget all the troubles in the real world.
But aside from the entertainment and cinematic value, RIO also had a strong advocacy about animal rights. It was really important that animal smuggling will be tackled and campaign for the protection of endangered animals. It was also excellent that the boy who captured Blu in the beginning realized his mistakes and changed his ways and even got involved with animal preservation at the end. It has a strong sentiment that poverty is not an excuse for maltreatment of animals and it can never be too late to be concerned and involved in environmental efforts.
