Hey, Heartbreaker

In popular romance literature, there is a tried and tested formula for Love stories. The heroine was supposed to fall in love first with the perfect guy who is handsome and rich but snobbish and out of her league. She will be at the mercy of the man who will later decide if he will return her feelings or hurt her terribly.

That was why the independent movie 500 Days Summer was ‘not a love story, it is a story about love.’ It successfully showed how love makes the couple see the world through a rose-colored glass that slowly fades as time goes by. There is no sugar-coating in this movie but rather it offered a realistic take on what love can truly be: painful and depressing. It is like a warning on what you might get through with if you will dare to let yourself fall for someone.

In this movie, the guy had no doubt that he is inlove with the girl. The guy was already giving her the world, but she is ‘still not sure’ about him. One can say that she is heartless or she just plays with the feelings of the guy for her. It was obvious that at the start she was really enjoying his company, but that was it, until time passed got bored with him and sees everything as bleak. That was pretty unnatural for girls perceived in movies whose ultimate goal is to find someone who will love and take care of her. And now that she found him, she was supposed to be swept away and reciprocate her feelings.

But this witty and funny movie was the opposite of that. She broke the heart of the guy who loves her and looked for someone that she can be ‘sure’ of. She left him broken, hurt and sad. The guy cursed everything from the girl to love itself. He thought he was ready to give up on love, until she met Autumn, and hence the ___ Days of Autumn commence…
